AUDITION ANNOUNCEMENT – A Christmas Carol The Musical

​

The Milburn Stone Theatre at Cecil College is seeking performers for their December 2026 production of A Christmas Carol The Musical.

​

Audition Information:

 

Auditions will take place on Monday, September 14th, and Wednesday, September 16th, with both nights starting at 6 pm at Cecil College's Technology Center (Room 106) - There will be a sign in front of the Milburn Stone Theatre pointing to the direction of the building.) Those submitting a video audition have until Tuesday, September 15th, at 11:59 pm, and can do so via Cast98, but auditioning in person is strongly encouraged.

 

Callbacks: Callbacks for A Christmas Carol will be held on Wednesday, September 23rd, starting at 6 pm.

Callback notifications will be sent out by Friday, September 18th.

 

Audition Preparation: Please prepare a song (approximately 32 bars, or 60–90 seconds of music) in the style of

the show. Songs from the show are welcome but not required. We're looking for songs that showcase your vocal range and understanding of the style.

An accompanist will be provided for your audition, and their use is highly encouraged. If you choose not to use the provided accompanist, you must bring a backing track (without vocals) to play during your performance.

Please note: Amplification will not be provided, and playing backing tracks off a cell phone (without proper additional amplification) is strongly discouraged.

 

 

Rehearsals:

​

Rehearsals for A Christmas Carol will begin in late September. Rehearsals will be based on both performer and production staff availability, so please submit all known conflicts at the time of auditions. The Milburn Stone Theatre traditionally rehearses between 2 to 4 times a week.

​

Tech Week:

 

Tech week for A Christmas Carol will be held Monday, November 23rd, through Thursday, December 8th, with no tech rehearsals on November 25th through 29th in observance of Thanksgiving. No conflicts will be accepted on Monday, November 30th, through December 3rd, as they will be considered mandatory.

​

Performances:

 

Performances for A Christmas Carol begin on Friday, December 4th, with additional performances on December 5th, 6th, 11th, 12th, and 13th. Friday evening performances take place at 7:30 pm and Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2 pm. There is the possibility of additional performances on the evening of December 5th & 12th. The cast/crew will be notified in early November if this a possibility.

Please note: The Milburn Stone Theatre is a community theatre on a college campus. Our productions are open to the entire community, not just Cecil College students, faculty, and staff. This production is non-paid/non-union.

 

 

A Christmas Carol The Musical Casting Breakdown:

All roles are available for audition. Listed ages are ranges, not requirements. While we encourage everyone to audition for any role, our Music Theatre International agreement requires all characters to be performed as originally written.

 

Character Breakdown

 

* Scrooge: A man who lost his father to creditors as a kid and has grown up heeding his father's advice to save his money. Until he realizes how terrible he's become, he is a grumpy, unsympathetic man and has no time for anyone or anything.

Gender: Male | Age: 45 to 65 | Vocal range top: G5 | Vocal range bottom: A3

 

* Mr. Cratchit: A father and husband who cares deeply for his family, particularly his youngest son. He works hard to provide for them but is mistreated by his employer, Scrooge.

Gender: Male | Age: 30 to 40 | Vocal range top: E5 | Vocal range bottom: A3

 

* Mrs. Cratchit: Tiny Tim's mother and Mr. Cratchit's wife. She is a loving mother who tries to provide the best for her children with what she's got.

Gender: Female | Age: 30 to 40 | Vocal range top: E5 | Vocal range bottom: A3

 

* Tiny Tim: Mr. and Mrs. Cratchit's youngest son. He is crippled and sick, but is the definition of loving Christmas spirit. He constantly reminds his family that as long as they all have each other, they will be happy.

Gender: Male | Age: 9 to 12 | Vocal range top: E5 | Vocal range bottom: A3

 

* Fred: Scrooge's nephew and only living relative. He is a pleasant young man who believes in the good that a joyful Christmas spirit can make in the world.

Gender: Male | Age: 25 to 35 | Vocal range top: F5 | Vocal range bottom: A3

 

* Ghost Of Christmas Present: A jovial, larger-than-life ghost who comes back to show Scrooge all the joy, love, and celebration he is missing out on while those around him celebrate Christmas. This performer could double as the Sandwichboard Man.

Gender: Male | Age: 35 to 45 | Vocal range top: G5 | Vocal range bottom: A3

 

* Ghost Of Christmas Past: An ever cheerful, sprightly ghost who comes back with the history book of Scrooge's past to show him the events that led to his current state. This performer could double as the Lamplighter.

* Blind Old Hag / Ghost Of Christmas Future: A beautiful and terrifying wrath, the Ghost of Christmas Future is strong and silent as she shows Scrooge what will happen to him and those around him if he continues down the path he is currently treading.

Gender: Female | Age: 50 to 65  | Vocal range top: G5 | Vocal range bottom: A3

 

* Marley: Scrooge's former business partner, who, before his death, was exactly like Scrooge. Comes back as a ghost in chains to warn Scrooge of how his life decisions will bind him in the afterlife.

* Scrooge's Mother

* Emily: Scrooge's fiancée from when they were young. She is a beautiful girl, not impressed or in need of money.

* Mrs. Fezziwig: The consummate hostess and Mr. Fezziwig's wife, she loved to help throw the Christmas party every year. She is prideful.

Gender: Female | Age: 50 to 60 | Vocal range top: A5 | Vocal range bottom: A3

 

* Mr. Fezziwig: A portly, jolly man who used to throw a huge Christmas party every year for the community. He was Scrooge's first boss, and after teaching him all he knew, he became deeply disappointed in the man Scrooge became.
